A day on South Whidbey

Spend a day wandering, venturing, and unwinding

Whidbey Island is often referred to as being divided into three different areas: South, Central, and North Whidbey. South Whidbey is a top destination for travelers, yet regardless of your whereabouts on the Island, you’ll find yourself easily relaxing into the views, local business charm, delicious dining experiences, and the bounty of available activities.

Morning meandering

There are a few scenic methods of getting to the Island, yet the spectacular ferry ride from Mukilteo places you perfectly at the south end in Clinton where your day begins! Stop in at the Madrona Supply Co. Think of this as your “Welcome to Whidbey” store. From screen-printed home goods and apparel made in-house to a room filled with local wood slabs for custom projects, there is something for everyone at Madrona Supply Co.

Next, hop in your car and travel just 5 minutes to Whidbey Island Bagel Factory. This is the perfect pit stop before heading into Langley. Enjoy mouthwatering New York–style bagels such as pumpernickel, jalapeño cheddar, or even a Lox breakfast sandwich. The idyllic seaside town of Langley awaits, and you’ll want to spend hours wandering through quaint shops and boutiques, admiring water views, and exploring the town’s hidden nooks and crannies. Discover Callahan’s Firehouse Studio & Gallery, which allows visitors to interact with glass-blowing artists as they magnificently transform molten glass into art.

Midday adventure

All of that perusing and treasure hunting probably has you dreaming of lunch, so stroll on over to The Braeburn for a lovely dining experience. You’ll find an appetizing array of comfort food classics mixed with fresh favorites, all made from scratch. Afterward, take a leisurely walk down to the Langley Marina for an invigorating kayak tour with Whidbey Island Kayaking. You’ll revel in spotting local wildlife, including seals or maybe even a whale while basking in the panoramic views. And all the while, you'll be learning about Whidbey’s past and present. If you do catch a glimpse of a whale and perhaps their pod it’s tradition to ring the “Whale Bell” at Langley’s Seawall Park!
